The thing is that I've been trying -- I jumped into ATWT and OLTL immediately, even though I'd never watched them before, and became interested in the other characters right away.
But this one is really a chore. Maybe I've lost the taste for soaps in general.
Maybe it's just not for you. I was never able to get into OLTL -- I watched a few clips and stopped watching. I did the same thing with the German soap AWZ (Alles was Zählt = All that Matters), but I know quite a number of people who got really into both of those shows.
But with Days, much like with ATWT and VL (Verbotene Liebe = Forbidden Love, another German soap opera I really got into for a while, until they changed writers and destroyed Christian and Olli), it just took one or two episodes and I was hooked. I mean, I hadn't watched Days in years, but when I heard rumors of the upcoming gay storyline, a couple of months before anything really started, I started watching and I found myself getting sucked in right away.
Now, I admit, with Days that may be partially -- hell, maybe even mostly -- because this was my show when I was growing up. It's not an entirely new show to me, I'm familiar with a lot of the characters, so it was kind of like coming home... or maybe more like comfort food :D
But that's not true for everyone here and a lot of other people who are new to the show seem to be enjoying the story. And it they don't? That's okay. I won't be offended if a whole bunch of people decide the show isn't for them and leave, although I hope enough stick around so I have at least a few people to talk to -- fandom is just more fun if you have people to share it with! -- but even if everyone else leaves, I'll still be watching it, just like I did for a couple of months before I convinced my fellow mods jumped on the bandwagon.
I'm just saying, not every show appeals to every person, so there's no shame in saying that this show just isn't for you and giving it up. Life is too short to waste your time something you don't enjoy, especially when we're talking about something as trivial as not just a TV show, but a soap opera. I mean, if you decide you want to stick around at least until the two guys start spending some more time together and see if your interest grows, that's great, but if you decide the show just isn't for you, then I don't want anyone to waste their time on a soap opera they just can't get into.
