Thanks, I'm leaving town for Thurs/Fri and not sure if I want to bother with recording. I can't take much more of martyr John at this point, LOL. Love Marlena though.
i'm so happy Sonny gets a boyfriend. i didn't want the awesome eligible gay character just waiting around for Will to come out. of course i still want them to get together eventually. ;)
I saw this pic at AfterElton... I'm just gonna post Langford's blog comments that went with the pic because they pretty much sum up my own, especially the WTF factor...
WARNING: THERE BE SPOILERS HERE:
*Will Horton decides to come out on New Year’s Eve in Salem, but something deters his plans. Could that something be Sonny Kiriakis’ boyfriend? Oh yeah, that’s right, looks like Will’s gay pal Sonny has got himself a man. As Salem rings in the New Year, Will meets Tyler, Sonny’s fella, played by Andrew St. John. Will is undoubtedly going to be as shocked as the viewers to learn that Sonny has been dating since we haven’t heard anything about this guy and the relationship seems to have developed off screen. That’s never a good sign for longevity, not to mention how the writers feel about Sonny as a character in and of himself. Clearly Tyler is simply a plot device to ping Will’s closeted gay and perhaps gear Sonny and Will into their inevitable romance. This columnist also suspects Tyler will be the gay that Sonny spies Will kissing come next February.*
I don't agree with Anthony even the tiniest bit that having this relationship developed off-screen says anything about how the writers feel about Sonny as a character. It says lots about how they feel about Tyler as a character and about the Sonny/Tyler relationship (both are clearly plot devices) but all it says about Sonny individually is that this relationship with Tyler isn't important to his overall storyline.
I agree, and while I would love to see Sonny begin dating someone now. It feels, at least for now, Sonny is mainly going to be a secondary character, at least until Will begins to be comfortable with himself. From there I think we'll really get to see both characters come into their own, and maybe even a romance.
Yeah, Sonny is a secondary character (at least for the moment) and one of his major reasons for existence is as a counterpoint to Will's story. Will is struggling with coming out, and Sonny has just always known. So it makes sense to me that part of that would be NOT showing Sonny go through the typical soap opera drama of meeting and starting to date someone new; that the first we see of him in a relationship is one where he's confident and happy, skipping over all the awkward early "getting to know you" "does he like me or doesn't he" parts.
Eh, personally, I think it kind of sucks that their relationship started and apparently developed off screen. However, I am glad that they are finally addressing the huge thing blaring them in the face. That no way, no how would a cute, smart, funny, young gay guy like Sonny remain single forever. I'd bet that if Salem does have any sort of gay community, there are thousands of boys just waiting to snatch him up.
Awesome! Welcome to the comm! You should make a new post to share your vid with the whole comm. I can't watch the vid at work, but I can't wait to get home so I can see it!
