Yeah, a lot of people don't. :) I only know because of my mom's surgery. But they try really hard not to shave heads anymore because it actually has a very strong correlation with better outcomes. Apparently, the emotional hit of having one's head shaved is so great that it actually makes success rates go way down. Also, there's really no risk, since what they do is cut a slim line on the scalp, and then move the scalp back, baring the skull for surgery. They used to think it was "cleaner" but research shows there's no upside to head-shaving and a a very strong downside for surgical outcome. :)
