Chandler interview!
AfterElton has a new interview with Chandler and Deidre Hall (Marlena) up on their website. I'll put Chandler's interview under the cut but be sure and go to the source for Deidre's. She says some lovely things about Chandler!
AfterElton.com: So Will’s first smooch was definitely not of the soft, tender variety but a more aggressive one. Whose choice was that?
Chandler Massey: I made the choice on my own. I made it more of a physical connection than an emotional connection because Will just met this guy thirty minutes or an hour prior to that happening, so there’s no real emotional connection. It’s definitely a physical desire that takes over, so that’s why I thought the rough approach was more appropriate.
AE: The subsequent scenes with Marlena were so great. How has it been working with Deidre on those scenes? You two have such a great connection.
CM: Yeah, I think the great thing about working with Deidre, who is obviously an amazing actress and amazing woman...her character, Marlena, is always there and has always given Will advice and is always helping him along this journey. Deirdre in real life kind of does the same thing for me. She’s a pro, and it’s so nice to work with her because she’s going to bring it every time and really challenge me as an actor.
AE: So what’s coming next for Will? Lucas is back…
CM: Lucas comes back and that’s going to be a lot of drama and a lot of fun. At this point, the thing I can tease is that it’s taken Will so long to get to this point, and I really appreciate the time that it’s taking to tell the story rather than rushing it. I think with this kiss there’s the point of no return, and it starts to pick up and kind of come to kind of a resolution in a way pretty soon.
AE: What is Will’s relationship with Lucas now that he’s back? Are they in a good place?
CM: Yes, they are. He’s been in China for a couple of years, and I think Will and Lucas have always had a pretty strong bond. So he comes back and it’s a little awkward at first, but they quickly fall into the father/son rapport. They pick up where they left off, basically.
AE: Does Lucas pick up on what’s going on with Will, or does that take awhile?
CM: I think it takes a little while, and Will doesn’t expect Lucas to come in and immediately know what’s going on with him since he’s been gone. So it does take a little while for that to come out.
AE: At this point, Will and Sami are still very much at odds, and he’s not giving her much of a break. But what do you think? Do you think he should stay mad at her, or should he just forgive her at this point?
CM: I understand why they’re dragging out the conflict, but I’m the first person that’s a fan of Will's and I love my character and I think his anger is completely justified. But I guess that it’s so important to forgive.
She’s done worse things before and really it’s not necessarily even about the whole sleeping with EJ thing even though Will constantly brings that up. At the source of it is that Will’s confused and he’s scared to come out to his Mom. He thinks that she should probably know already, and just the fact that she doesn’t seem to be there for him and doesn’t seem to be aware in the slightest way. That’s the real issue there, and he’s kind of taking out his frustration and his insecurities on her. She’s an easy target.
AE: Do we see Will go on any dates, any smooches, anything coming up?
CM: No, it hasn’t happened yet so there’s been no romance yet, unfortunately.
AE: He definitely has a lot on his plate besides that.
CM: I feel like it will come once Will completely accepts who he is. That will be the best time.
AE: You’ve had some really tough scenes these past few weeks and have done a great job. How has it been for you?
CM: Thanks a lot. I’m always striving to take classes and get better. Especially when a storyline is so important to me personally and important, I think, in all aspects. I obviously don’t want to ruin it with my not being able to realisitically portray what Will is going through.
AE: Do you ever just sit back and think, ‘My job today is go to work and cry all day in front of a camera!’ Some of those scenes were so emotional!
CM: Sometimes it’s a good thing to think of it that way because in coming out, Will has been getting emotional lately, but I think it’s more ‘Wow, I get to go to work today’ and it doesn’t even feel like work. Every day I come on there’s a new chance to try to play the story a little differently and find something new. That’s the best thing about coming to work.

I feel silly admitting I'm a bit bummed by the fact that there won't be romance lead-up soon. *sigh*
